When a founder hands over the daily operations of a project, the creation of clear accountability depends on these explicit terms. Without documented metrics, the baseline drifts, leaving both parties with differing interpretations of success.
A handoff demands clear numbers. This precision reduces the cognitive load on the operator by removing ambiguity about where the boundaries of the role lie and when the holder of the seat must answer for their choices. When these details are omitted, the relationship inevitably breaks down under the weight of unstated expectations and conflicting memories.
Performance Cost
Operating under constant scrutiny consumes a measurable portion of a person’s attention and energy. For a founder who has moved to a non-executive seat, the burden of accountability translates into hours spent compiling reports rather than building new systems. This reporting duty diverts intellectual capacity from creative tasks.
